This is a very small snippet of a short story/one shot thing that I’m working on. In simple terms, this story is past canon events that me and my decided upon for the little ninjago rp that we are doing. It’s so prevalent to the current events in the rp that I was convinced by my friend, and myself, to write it. Or at least start to.
Before anyone goes and reads this, before you all get mad at me or something, just note that this is/will be greenflame so if you don’t like that, you’re free to skip this. I mean with my little blurb right here it’s not like super implied just yet, but still. Guess I should also note that though this starts our normal, it is going to end up being an explicit fic. Really calling myself out here haha. Also to note! This all happens after the events of season 10. So in that many months time period before season 11.
⋆﹥━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━﹤⋆
The gentle sounds of the lake water lapping at the shore was the only short of distraction from the almost unbearable sound of frogs and night bugs whipping away at his ears. Being on the edge of the forest meant hearing the bugs that liked to take rest inside of the dense wooded area, but being near the shore meant dealing with the frogs and other types of bugs that enjoyed the humid and wet atmosphere that the body of water brought. Being in the heart of summer didn’t exactly help either, the humidity in the air was already unbearable to begin with, but the addition of being stationed near the water’s edge just added another layer to that already high mix of water in the air. The day was slowly slipping away though, drifting into a cooler night, but not by much. The sun was slowly starting to dip behind the mountains in the distance, on the other side of the lake, leaving a sort of masterpiece of warm colors in its wake. Following that spectacle of colors was the oncoming approach of night and the blues and blacks that the night sky came with. Night would mean darkness, but night also meant stars. Having spent so much time in the city as of late, it hid away that beauty of nature from his eyes. You never really get to realize how much you would miss some sort of thing until it was taken away and it hits you one day that it's gone, or when you know you’re going to be presented with it again. It was nice to get out of the city for a change. He’d get to see the stars.
Now, he wouldn’t have come out here all on his own accord, that's what made this little trip, or expedition so different. It wasn't some pleasant thing that he announced to the others in the team. It wasn’t a, “hey I’ve missed nature so I’m going to sit outside all day in the blistering heat and humidity and then watch the stars at night.” no, he was out here because he was ordered to be out here. Intel had been given to the team over a group of bandits that had taken camp on this river and were planning on some sort of strike again. It wasn’t like this was some big, mass casualty, not a “the world is going to end as we know it if we don’t stop it” sort of deal, no. It was just a petty group of bandits that took to fighting travelers on the road and stealing their stuff. They were apparently too much for the police force since they never really stretched outside of the city, but big enough of a problem that they were the ones who were asked to take care of it.
That’s the reason why Lloyd found himself sitting on the rocky shore of a lake, green eyes focused on the other side as he focused on a distant fire, giddy voices and personages that he could just make out if he focused hard enough. Wu had come up to him personally and asked that he sought this matter, did a “steak out” on the other side of the lake and stop the group from doing anything if they showed any signs of heading out and causing more mayhem. Why they didn’t just drop into the camp and take them all out was beyond him. If this was some sort of “they have a chance for redemption” sort of thing, he was going to give his uncle a very stern glare when he got back to the monastery. He wasn’t particularly looking forward to wasting a night of sleep to watch some petty thieves be merry and drink around a fire over the day’s bounty.
It's not like he was even able to do many things himself. If he started a fire then that would attract attention and the whole mission would be compromised. He couldn’t use his powers for light either since that would once again, attract attention. He doubted that even from this distance he could mask his powers to look like a firefly. Itd still simply be too big even with the multitude of lightning bugs that were slowly starting to flicker into existence with the passing of the sun. It was like stars before the stars. They were almost just as enchanting to look at as he was awaiting the stars to be. Something in his gut told him that the bandits tonight would be very eventual and he’d be able to spend his time doing something else, like stargazing. Despite having sat around all day waiting for nightfall so he could step out of the shadows and be closer to the group he was watching despite still being separated by a lake, he’d still like a moment to lay down.
Letting out a small sigh, the green ninja stretched his arms above his head, arching his back a little to ease some of the tension he was now feeling there. He was met with a few satisfying pops before he finally caved and allowed himself to lay down on the rocks. Not the most comfortable, but better than laying on a sandy shore and getting sand everywhere. He’s been to the desert enough times to know how horrendous it is to clean sand out of his clothes and shoes. Sand was almost like glitter. It just never left. Laying back though, he gave himself a small moment to shift around, try and displace the rocks pressing against his back into a more comfortable position, and when he felt satisfied enough, he rested his hands across his stomach, fingers interlaced.
Now, it was easy to have his eyes towards the sky. He could still see the final rays of sunlight breaking through the night sky, but the moon was already shining bright and a few stars could be seen if you looked at it enough. His eyes scanned the expanse that he could see, but soon it was being covered up with the appearance of something, or rather someone.
“Rocks comfortable for you grasshopper?” Kai’s warm voice and soft face came to his senses. From the position the fire ninja was standing over him and the way he was looking up, the brunette was upside down. His voice had been light and amusing, the smile that curved his lips made his heart skip a beat. In that position some of the fading light of the sun was pressing against Kai’s naturally tanned skin, adding a heavenly glow to it. Lloyd could only hope that the ground around him was dark enough to cover the light blush he could feel heating up his cheeks. Lloyd masked it with a frown and raised a hand to swat at Kai who was easily able to dodge it by merely stepping back
“Yes, and you’re blocking my view.”
“Personally I think I’m the best view.”
Lloyd huffed and rolled his eyes, but his internal monolog was agreeing. Kai really was the best view but he was too shy and even afraid to admit it. “Is that what you tell yourself in the mirror every morning?”
The ground next to him shifted and made little noise as he watched as Kai took to sitting down next to him. The master of fire gazed down at Lloyd, that annoying but oh so charming smirk on his face paired with a fiery glint in his eyes. “Yeah actually. Have to remind myself how flawless and picturesque I am everyday. Build confidence, you know.”
“Like you don’t already have enough of that.” Lloyd gabbed back, but afterwards directed his attention back towards the sky above. In the small amount of time that he had that mini conversation with Kai, the sun had dipped even lower and now the light was basically gone and the sky was open to the stars. Shame in a way, Lloyd could really look at the evening sun kissing the skin of his best friend for hours. Too often he feels like he’s gotten lost in the beauty of his friend and just unfairly everything around him and about him just seemed to heighten how, how attractive he was. It made him feel weak, a heat settling in his stomach and across his cheeks. He wasn’t a young confused kid anymore, he knew what it meant, all of these things, but it didn’t make it any easier for him to admit it.
Kai was here for good measure, but also here and was proving to be a very big distraction. Originally this mission was supposed to be solo. It was just a small group of maybe five or six bandits and that would hardly be any sort of problem for anyone on the team. He was all set and ready to embark on his own for the night when Kai chimed in and said that he’d come with him. One, to appease Master Wu by saying “someone has to keep the little guy up,” but for him? Kai said this was a chance for them to just spend time together. Out of everyone on the team they were the ones who were the closest with each other, they were best friends to every degree he could think of, so spending time with him wasn’t bad at all.
He just didn’t realize how distracted his mind would be while he’s here.

I'm looking at building my first warlock and while I've settled on a patron, I'm having trouble deciding on a pact for him. What do you think are the pros and cons of the different pacts, from a mechanical standpoint and the different types of rp opportunities they can provide you?
Oooh, big question. Let’s presume you are only using PHB material; much as I adore the Pact of Gloom out of Forgotten Realms Archetypes: Savagery and Shadow, the full list of custom options gets a little unwieldy.
Fundamentally the three pacts are a little like the classic RPG character choice; warrior, rogue or mage. Because although the warlock is a spellcaster, between the restricted spell list, high spell recovery turnover and the Eldritch Invocations, it plays unlike any other spellcaster. So, to turn up the flexibility even more, you have the three Pact Boons; Pact of the Blade, Pact of the Chain, and Pact of the Tome.
Pact of the Blade is the Warlock answer to the “Warrior” player; you get to summon a weapon to yourself with an action, and you get to take invocations to support that. Spellcasters don’t often throw themselves into the fray with a melee weapon so this is unusual for the type (Bard Colleges like Valour or Swords are similar) so to support this you are able to take Invocations like “Improved Pact Weapon” (Xanathar’s Guide to Everything) and spells like Greenflame Blade (Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide) to better improve your frontline combat ability. It pairs well with Hexblade (Xanathar’s Guide to Everything) as both Patron and Pact channel you to the front lines.
Pact of the Chain is the Rogue-like option. You gain a familiar, a creature able to move around and take actions at your command, leaving you free to focus your attentions where they are most needed. As most familiars are small or tiny creatures, and not necessarily obtrusive in most normal circumstances (there’s a reason the classic familiar animal is a cat; people who like cats might notice the cat, but they certainly won’t think it doesn’t belong wherever it might happen to be) and with the ability to see and hear through its senses you are able to extend your range as far as the familiar can go. With the ability to cast spells through the familiar as well, you never have to put yourself needlessly in danger, as long as you can maintain your connection.
Pact of the Tome is the classic Mage answer; three new cantrips? Yes please. Able to select the three new cantrips from the list of any one other class? Hell to the yes. And from there your available Invocations are all buffs and benefits that continue to make you a terrifying arcane horror, such as never sleeping again (Aspect of the Moon, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything).Roleplay-wise, none of them give you any extra benefits specifically, it more comes down to how you want your character to come across. A brash and vaguely threatening scrapper ready to throw down at any moment with a little spellfire thrown into the mix? Blade. A shifty figure who every so often just sleeps in, followed at all times by a green-eyed raven who looks at you funny, like, I swear he knows my name dude...? Chain. The immensely unsettling bookworm, always with their head stuck into a tome that seems to whisper to you when you walk past them? Tome.
As with anything in this game, it’s all about what you find fun. Figure out what you want to be doing, then pick the pact boon that’s right for you. Or hell, pick one at random and if you don’t like it, that’s a good sign for next time.
Good luck, and tell me stories no matter which one you pick!

Are you one of those who don't like show Greenflame solely because of the age gap? If so, then yes, what you said makes sense since both boys are clearly minors in the movie while the show is confusing on how old the ninja are.
The age thing is part of the reason I have an au that I prefer to use to write fanfic and rp within. Alot of the Canon material is the same in the au, but some things are altered slightly or completely changed. Like how, in my au, the ninja are currently in their late 20s, and Lloyd is only about a year younger physically and four years younger mentally. This removes the issue of Kai seeming like a pedophile just because of age.
I ship MOVIE Greenflame, but not SHOW Greenflame.  Does that make sense?
